- 'In her two decades of serving the Arctic and cementing Canadian sovereignty claims to the Arctic Archipelago, St. Roch became: - the first vessel to traverse the Northwest passage from west-to-east (1940-42), - the first vessel to sail the more northerly, deep water, east-to-west Northwest Passage route (1944), - the first vessel to conquer the Northwest Passage in a single season, and - the first vessel ever to circumnavigate North America and do it in both directions (1950 and 1954).'
